A Conversation with Mark Nepo

Mark Nepo

How can we remember we are of one human family? How can we stay awake and authentic when our wounds make us numb and hidden? How can we dissolve the wall around our mind and heart? How can this practice of staying authentic serve and draw strength from the Universal Whole while we are ever immersed and entangled in the moment of our lives?

In this program, we welcomed Mark Nepo to our show to discuss his Book of Awakening, a year’s supply of inspirational stories and beautifully written essays that explore these questions. “Mark Nepo is a poet,” Oprah says. “He’s an author and a philosopher and has been through two different cancers. So when he writes, he writes purely from the heart.”

Mark is a poet, author and philosopher who has published eleven books and recorded three CDs. A new book of teaching stories, As Far As the Heart Can See is due out this year. He has also written Facing the Lion, Being the Lion: Finding Inner Courage Where It Lives, Surviving Has Made Me Crazy, Inner Courage, and The Exquisite Risk which was cited by Spirituality & Health Magazine as one of the Best Spiritual Books of 2005, calling it “one of the best books we’ve ever read on what it takes to live an authentic life.” As a cancer survivor, Mark devotes his writing and teaching to the journey of inner transformation and the life of relationship. In 2010, Mark sat down for an interview with Oprah Winfrey as part of her Soul Series on the satellite radio network, SIRIUS XM Radio. Mark’s work has been translated into French, Portuguese, Japanese, and Danish. He offers readings, lectures, and retreats.
