A Conversation with Alex Grey

We recently had a wonderful show with Alex Grey. Grey is an artist specializing in mystical and visionary art often associated with the Spiritual Creative movement. He is best known for his paintings which “x-ray” multiple dimensions of reality, interweaving physical and biological anatomy with psychic and spiritual energies.

Grey’s visual meditation on the nature of life and consciousness, the subject of his art, is contained in four books: Sacred Mirrors and Transfigurations, two monographs that follow the history of Grey’s artistic life; The Mission of art, which reflects on art as a spiritual practice; and Art Psalms, a book of sketches and poetry, some dictated by “a voice at dawn.” He is co-founder of CoSM Journal of Visionary Culture, now completing its seventh issue.

Alex and Allyson Grey are the co-founders of the Chapel of Sacred Mirrors (CoSM) a not for profit institution in New York.

Grey is a member of the Integral Institute, is on the Board of Advisors for the Center for Cognitive Liberty and Ethics, and is the Chair of Wisdom University’s Sacred Art Department. His world renowned career includes exhibitions and keynote addresses from Basel to Tokyo to Sao Paulo, features on Discovery Channel, Newsweek, Time, and album art for Tool, the Beastie Boys, Nirvana and SCI.
