The Eastern States by Cassandra Curley

I traversed incredible beauty and invited revealing conversations on the last few segments Cassandra Curleyof this 2500 mile journey. Of course, my task is not only to promote an awareness of Peace and Unity but, to engage in a dialogue of understanding between different walks of life. It is promising that in all states there flows an undercurrent of hopefulness and a longing to release any fear that may have dammed the channel for accord. Mankind is longing to change from a viewpoint of “yours” and “mine” to a vision of “ours” for the sake of humanity. With an open mind, and a willingness to seek a common ground, we can unite locally, nationally and finally, globally to attain this desire.

Particularly close to my heart were the tri-states of New Jersey, New York and Connecticut. My fondness for New York City (I met my Queens-raised husband there while pursuing acting in the eighties) brought me to the most densely populated area of the country. Singly, Manhattan stages a symphony of languages and mirrors a kaleidoscope of humanity to present a microcosm of the world within 24 square miles. To traverse the island, with its many distinct neighborhoods, is like a mini jaunt around the world. Within it, offers an unparalleled opportunity to view humanity through a lens of unity and to confirm our oneness. How else could almost two million individual lives function if not for synergy? For that matter, a day at Grand Central Station streams up to a million people, like corpuscles in the body, to their appointed destinations, to demonstrate how truly cooperative we can be.

The Northern New England States were serene and welcoming. In a recent survey, Maine was named the “calmest” state in the U.S. It was interesting to note what factors may contribute to this distinction and how it compares to the “unrest” of New York City. Is it the sparse population, the reverence and connection to nature or perhaps, the abundance of ice cream shops that brings serenity to the northeast? Whatever the basis, I found New Englanders to be generous and kind.

My walk continues and, so does the journey of discovering the Unity of our States. As we launch into another election year, this is the focus I hope to bring to our amazing country.
